This course develops the communication skills needed for effective engineering work in an international environment.
- Technical English: terminology in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering, reading and understanding technical texts.
- Writing: writing technical reports, abstracts, professional emails, CVs; academic writing style and structure.
- Presenting: preparing and delivering oral presentations, visual aids, managing nervousness and audience questions.
- Group work: discussion, argumentation, negotiation, and conflict resolution in English.
- Ethics and responsibility: ethics in engineering practice, intellectual property, plagiarism.
Objectives
To prepare students for effective professional communication in English.
After successful completion, students will be able to:
- write structured technical reports and abstracts in English
- prepare and deliver an effective oral presentation
- understand and use professional terminology
- engage in reasoned discussion on technical topics
- recognise the ethical aspects of engineering work
