The seminar prepares students for independent research work, with a focus on written and oral scientific communication.
- Literature search: working with databases (PubMed, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, Scopus), citation management tools (Zotero, Mendeley).
- Critical reading: analysis of scientific papers, evaluating the quality of evidence, identifying strengths and limitations of studies.
- Scientific writing: structure of a scientific article (IMRAD), writing a literature review, presenting results clearly, citation practices and plagiarism.
- Presenting: preparing a presentation, data visualisation, public speaking, handling questions.
- Seminar work: each student prepares a written review of a chosen research topic and presents it to peers and their advisor.
Objectives
To prepare students for independently searching, critically evaluating, and communicating scientific content.
After successful completion, students will be able to:
- systematically search for and evaluate relevant scientific literature
- write a structured literature review in a chosen research area
- create a clear and visually effective presentation
- present a research topic to a professional audience
- properly cite sources and avoid plagiarism
