This course develops key transferable skills for working on projects in engineering environments.
- Project management: project goals and phases, stakeholders, project charter, work breakdown structure (WBS), Gantt charts, critical path method (PERT/CPM), risk management.
- Teamwork: Belbin team roles, building effective teams, conflict resolution, meeting facilitation.
- Innovation and creativity: creative problem-solving methods (brainstorming, SCAMPER, TRIZ), from idea to prototype.
- Strategic thinking: SWOT analysis, SIPOC diagram, process flow diagrams.
- Communication: effective presentations (elevator pitch, poster), technical report writing, argumentation.
- Hands-on project: student teams carry out a complete project from concept to final presentation, applying the methods learned in class.
Objectives
To prepare students for leading and contributing to project work in technical environments.
After successful completion, students will be able to:
- create a project charter and work breakdown structure (WBS)
- plan project timelines using Gantt charts and critical path analysis
- identify and assess risks and prepare mitigation measures
- work effectively in a team and recognise team roles
- apply creative problem-solving methods
- present work results clearly and persuasively
